iPhone 3GS sales through the roof

Apple have announced that they have sold 1,000,000 iPhone 3GS units over it's opening weekend!!

Wow!

That's 1,000,000 people who could have saved themselves the money and got a free iPhone 3GS following the 3 simple steps above!

iPhone Video Projector

iPhoneSuit are now selling the latest must have accessory for your free iPhone 3GS - a video projector!!

It is able to project video from your free iPhone 3GS up to a 40 inch screen and connects with a VGA input cable and an RCA input cable. Conveniently it can also connect to a laptop PC or DVD player. Oh yeah, and I want one!

The new iPhone 3GS, summary of features

Well, there it is, the new iPhone 3GS. Retailing at £440 for the 16gb model, or £540 for the £32gb model on PAYG. Or you can get a free iPhone 3GS on contract, or even better by following the links above and getting a completely free iPhone 3GS without a contract!

So what are the main features of the free iPhone 3GS? Well.....

To start with the "S" stands for "speed" - according to Apple, it is faster launching applications, rendering Web pages, and processing any number of apps and programs. The free iPhone 3GS has a new processor built-in which is claimed to be twice as fast as that of the free iPhone 3G. It also consumes less electricity, which has an impact on the improved battery life.

Camera
Apple have increased the resolution on the free iPhone 3GS to 3 megapixels, which seems to have improved the picture quality under all conditions. It also has auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance. You can also tap to focus, changing white balance in the process. It has special macro and low light modes and the camera also supports photo and video geotagging. Any application can access all the camera functions now.

It supports video at 30 frames per second VGA with auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure. The free iPhone 3GS also allows you to trim the video shot just using your finger, then share it via MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube.

Connectivity
The free iPhone 3GS has the faster 7.2 Mbps 3G standard, which delivers data faster to your iPhone and supports
  • Three band UMTS/HSDPA.
  • Four band GSM/EDGE.
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

Graphics
The free iPhone 3GS includes new 3D graphics support in hardware which means it can run faster and more complicated 3D games. It has the same 3.5-inch widescreen multitouch display as previous generations, but this time it has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating to prevent unsightly marks.

Design
The free iPhone 3GS has essentially the same design as the free Iphone 3G, including the glossy finish of the back and is also the same size as the free iPhone 3G, being 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches. It is slightly heavier being 135 grams compared to the 133 grams of the free iPhone 3G. It is also made of greener materials such as Arsenic-free glass, and BDF-free, Mercury-free LCD.

New features
The free iPhone 3GS has a magnetometer, which works with a Compass application, third parties, and it is integrated into the new Google maps app, showing your orientation with a small semitransparent cone. It also has voice control, you can instruct it to play similar songs to the one you are playing, or call people. The free iPhone 3GS has Nike + support built in and supports accessibility features, like zooming on text, inverting video, and voice over when you touch whatever text is on screen.

Battery life
One of the big new features of the free iPhone 3GS is the increased battery life. According to Apple, you will get up to 12 hours of talk time on 2G and 5 on 3G, with a up to 300 hour standby time. On 3G, it will deliver 5 hours of internet use and on Wi-Fi up to 9 hours. Video playback is 10 hours vs 30 hours for audio.

Verdict
All in, there is not a massive difference between the free iPhone 3GS and the 3G version. The 3.0 firmware update gives the old 3G a new lease of life and we would say if you have a 3G it is probably not worth the extra investment for the new 3GS.

If you do not have an iPhone already then we would recommend the 3GS. It is a great bit of kit and is finally realising the potential that Apple just missed out on with previous generations. That said it is a very expensive phone and we reckon the best thing to do is to get a free iPhone 3GS following the steps above!

Sky News Launches it's own Free iPhone App!

Sky News have finally followed the BBC and ITN by launching a free iPhone app which brings Sky's news service direct to your iPhone.

The free iPhone app allows you to watch video news headlines, weather and showbiz news, on the go.

You can also use it to send your own news stories and pictures directly to Sky which is a UK first.

Our personal favourite news app has always been ITN but initial thoughts on this new app are extremely positive, especially the ability to watch video on the move - a feature missing from the ITN service. Only time will if it will replace ITN as a our favourite news app.

T-Mobile Austria Leaks New iPhone!!

Further evidence that a new iPhone is on the horizon has been revealed by T-Mobile Austria who have inadvertantly suggested that Apple might be planning to launch a 32GB edition of the free iPhone.

The T-Mobile Austria website had put a holding page for the 32GB free iPhone up with a "coming soon" symbol. The mistake was quickly spotted and the offending page removed.

Of course this could have been an innocent mistake, but it does provide further evidence that Apple will announcing a new iPhone at their upcoming WWDC.

Apple already has a 32GB version of the iPod Touch, so that memory capacity is within the boundaries of a similar type of device, perhaps with Apple launching a 64GB edition of iPod Touch sometime later this year in order to minimise cross over between the gadgets.

Latest iPhone Rumours

Only 2 weeks to go until Apple's WWDC on June 8th where it is widely predicted that Apple will announce the next generation iPhone. The latest rumour to hit the mill is that you will be able to download movies from iTunes directly on to the phone itself. This hasnt been possible with previous iPhones as the download speeds do not make it feasible, but the HSDPA capacity that the new iPhone is rumoured to have would mean this becomes possible.

Other rumours include the addition of OLED screen and 1.5 x current battery power over existing models. An OLED screen would certainly help with battery life but it is difficult to see how Apple could introduce this without making the price of the iPhone prohibitive (though readers of this blog who have already taken their first steps towards a free iPhone - see above - won't mind too much as this price wouldn't affect them!).

It has also been speculated by industry analysts that 16gb and 32gb models will be introduced priced at $199 (£125) and $299 (£190) resepctively - though again these prices are only for people who choose not to follow the 3 steps above to get themselves a free iPhone!

Finally a launch date of 17th July is hotly tipped which would allow Apple plenty of time from the date of the WWDC on 8th June to prepare for a worldwide launch of the new iPhone. Though it should be pointed out that there are a number of people predicting that there will be no hardware announcements at the WWDC and instead a seperate event to announce the new iPhone will be organised at the end of June to coincide with Steve Jobs return to action from illness. This would still allow a good 3 weeks to launch on 17th July, though obviously things would be a little tighter.

So, it seems likely that June 17th will be the date that we get our hands on the new free iPhone, but what exactly will we be getting our hands on? Roll on the WWDC!!!

New iPhone / No New iPhone?!?!?!?

Bitterwallet are reporting that there seems to be some confusion about the new iPhone at the Carphone Warehouse. Apparently when a reader phoned CW to enquire about it they were told:

"that there is NO NEW IPHONE coming out. He suggested I sign up immediately to a £35/month contract for the current iphone and repeated that I SHOULD NOT go onto payg and wait for a new Iphone that is NEVER GOING TO COME OUT. Lovely chap."

Not that anyone for a moment thinks that a mobile phone salesman trying to clear stock of existing iPhones would ever lie, but when other branches were phoned with the same query different responses were received:

Eldon Square, Newcastle:

“I don’t think dates have been released yet, let me check on the internet. It doesn’t say, but I think it’s due for release in July, maybe later than that."

Kings Chase Shopping Centre, Bristol:

“It’s speculation, that’s all it is. Speculation. We haven’t been told there’s a new iPhone. It’s speculation. But it’s speculated that there’ll be a 32Gb handset with a 3.2 megapixel camera and FM radio built in. I can’t advise you whether you should buy now or not.”

Wharfside Shopping Centre, Penzance:

“To be honest, we haven’t been told yet. We’ll probably find out one to two weeks before release. We’re usually the last to know.”

So, is there going to be a new free iPhone this summer or not?! Well, the rumours (see posts below) are incredibly strong and consistent. It seems likely one will be announced either at Apple's WWDC on 8th June or if not at a seperate event at the end of June to coincide with the return of Steve Jobs from illness.

In either event, we recommend following the 3 steps above and getting started towards your new Free iPhone - whether that ends up being the newly released one, or the existing iPhone 3G it doesn't matter as long as it's free right!!

iPhone v Pre

The Palm Pre Blog have posted a comparison of the specifications of the Palm Pre and upcoming new iPhone here.

Of course the new iPhone's specifications have not been confirmed yet and the comparison is based upon generally accepted rumoured specifications. Whilst they are very similar I think the bigger screen and memory on the iPhone seal the deal for me.

Plus the fact that you can get an iPhone for free above!!
What do you think?

New iPhone 2009 specifications!

According to a leak from a source in China (where the iPhone is manufactured), iPhone model MB717LL 9 (the new version due in June) will have a 600MHz processor (the current one is a 400MHz unit), 256MB of RAM (double the current 128MB), 32GB of flash storage, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, a digital compass, and an FM radio. The leak goes on to say that the basic shape, screen size, and battery will all keep as in the current 3G model.

So, how true is this leak likely to be? Well, with the exception of FM there is nothing particularly grounbreaking or unusual in there. These features are only a small step up from those alreasy present so it's not a stretch of the imagine to believe they could be true.

Plus there is plenty of evidence on the internet to suggest that a digital compass will be making an appearance, and leaks that millions of 3.2mp camera units have been bought up by Apple suggests that the camera will finally see a (small) upgrade.

With the WWDC only a few weeks away I'm sure we will all be put out of our misery soon enough and find out exactly what Apple has in store for use! Whatever that may be Free iPhone 4u will be bringing you the tools to get your own free iPhone, sign up above today to get a head start!
